Welcome to AGWP
Hello and welcome to AGWP's web-page. My name is Dominic Sheridan, and I am the creator and administrator of AGWP (Australian Great War Poetry). I began this project in 2014, when I began thinking about my PhD studies, focusing on the poetry written by Australians in the 1st World War. What began as a research project for a PhD thesis, has now become something much more important. Of course, the thesis is important, but the project will have wider importance in the fields of study (at school level) and research (at university level); as well as being a resource for the general reader.
I have been writing poetry now for many years, and I have well over 100 Great War poems of my own, so it was only natural that I would follow the poetry of those writers before me who wrote on the subject. This web-site is totally devoted to AGWP and should be used as a research tool for those interested in the subject. It is a growing site, as there is still much to discover, but, as new items are found, they will be added to the canon.
Because of the obvious logistic constrictions, it is impossible to include every poem on this site, so, it is advised that the researcher uses this site as a starting point. If the poet is on this site, then he or she is a recognised member of the AGWP canon, and you will be given some assistance for further research. The site will also link to the AGWP Blog for such things as biographies as well as some poems. For the most part, these biographies are authored by other researchers, but they are a very good source.
As much information as possible is given on this site, but sometimes there is only a name, sometimes there is only a poem, but where ever possible, information is designed to help the researcher. Having said that, if you are researching, then you will need to do the work yourself. This site is by no means, all inclusive, but it is at this time, the best place to start.
I sincerely hope that you enjoy this site and learn as much as you can about Australian Great War poetry.
